[edit] Area Agencies on Aging
Area Agencies on Aging are the agencies designated by the state to be the focal point for Older Americans Act (OAA) programs. Administration on Aging awards Older Americans Act funds for supportive home and community-based services to the National State Units on Aging, which are located in every state and U.S. territory.
In addition to funding critical nutrition and supportive services, funds are awarded to the National State Units on Aging for elder rights programs, including the long-term care ombudsman program, legal services, outreach, and elder abuse prevention efforts. Most states are divided into planning and service areas (PSAs), so that programs can be tailored to meet the specific needs of older persons residing in those areas.
